CHRIS FORCUCCI
Oil Painting
A small painting has a special magic: it’s a window, a glimpse into someone’s world. There is magic in creating these too, the childhood wonder of watching a picture appear where minutes ago there was only pure white potential. I paint these small pieces alla-prima (wet-on-wet painting), and enjoy the spontaneity and fresh imperfection that comes with the technique.
I draw inspiration from people and animals in my life, the ones I see every day, meet for a moment, or remember. I sketch everywhere, mine our family photo albums, and make liberal use of my father’s bird and nature photography for reference.
I was a research oceanographer for many years; now a science writer and editor. I give art and science equal time in my life. For me, both are ways of understanding our amazing world.
Chris Forcucci’s paintings range from $80-$220, are no bigger than 9”x12” and come framed.
